ABOUT US
New Horizons Band Cincinnati is a community concert band for musicians who want to continue learning, performing, and making music together. We welcome players from a wide range of musical backgrounds who share a commitment to rehearsal, growth, and the enjoyment of ensemble music.
We are part of the New Horizons International Music Association (NHIMA), a nonprofit dedicated to lifelong music-making and supporting welcoming programs for adult musicians around the world. Here in Cincinnati, we carry that mission forward through regular rehearsals, a full calendar of performances, and community connections—presenting music that is engaging, well-prepared, and meaningful for both musicians and audiences.
Our Beginnings
New Horizons Band Cincinnati began in January 1999, when a small group of musicians gathered for an inaugural rehearsal at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Montgomery. Some had not played their instruments for decades, while others were picking one up for the first time.
Under founding musical director Pete Metzger, the band started with just eight or nine players and simple music as members rebuilt their skills—borrowing a few extra musicians for their first concert. What began as a modest experiment quickly grew into a thriving musical community, expanding to more than 40 musicians by its tenth anniversary in 2009 and performing throughout the region.
Continuing the Tradition
Today, the band continues to grow and evolve, welcoming musicians who share a love of playing and performing together. With regular rehearsals and a full schedule of concerts and community performances, New Horizons Band Cincinnati remains committed to the spirit that began in 1999: lifelong music-making and the joy of playing in an ensemble.
